You Said…We Did 👍Next week, we’ll be announcing the latest set of neighbourhood policing priorities across Welwyn Hatfield. Before we do, here is a recap of the work we completed to tackle the previous priorities.
NORTH
🗣️You Said… Drug issues in Peartree We Did… ✅Officers have been carrying out patrols and developing intelligence so that appropriate action can be taken. ✅Residents have been encouraged to continue reporting concerns via 101 or online at https://www.herts.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us-beta/contact-us/ ✅A vehicle identified which was identified as being involved in drugs supply was located on Martinfield. The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs and the vehicle was seized for no insurance. ✅During a separate incident, a vehicle failed to stop for officers and after a short pursuit the occupants decamped into a wooded area. The vehicle was seized and the owner issued with a Notice of Intended Prosecution. ✅Neighbourhood officers also conducted a concern for welfare check at an address following reports of a vulnerable occupant being cuckooed. Two males were located within the address and arrested for outstanding matters as well as being wanted for recall to prison.
🗣️You Said… Anti-social behaviour in Welwyn Garden City town centre We Did…. ✅We have been working hard to identify those contributing to ASB in the area and we are working closely with partner agencies and schools. ✅We have been working with partners to ensure that vacant premises are properly secured. This is to prevent those who would seek to trespass from gaining entry and causing damage. We’ve also been educating parents around talking to their children about the dangers of exploring abandoned buildings. ✅We’ve been working on solutions to prevent the alleyway next to McDonalds being used for criminality and ASB. This has included installing a gate to prevent access.
WEST
🗣️You Said… Drug issues at Parkhouse Court We Did… ✅Officers have been carrying out patrols and developing intelligence so that appropriate action can be taken. ✅Residents have been encouraged to continue reporting concerns via 101 or online at https://www.herts.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us-beta/contact-us/ ✅A warrant was carried out in nearby Aviation Avenue on Wednesday 11 February. Two people were arrested at the property, one was later charged and both have now been moved from the area. A 25 year old man from Aviation Avenue was charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis. A 33 year old man from Aviation Avenue was given a community resolution for possession of cannabis. Cannabis, cocaine, phones and cash were seized from the property. ✅ We are continuing to work with partners to target harden the area and make sure the flats are secure. Target hardening is a security strategy that involves strengthening a property or location to make it harder for offenders to access, increasing the effort required for a crime, and deterring potential intruders. We have a dedicated operation underway (Operation Cavetto) to achieve this.
🗣️You Said… Theft of bicycles We Did… ✅We carried out patrols and hosted regular bike-marking events. Over 80 bikes have been security marked. Bike marking acts as a visible deterrent to thieves and boosts the chances of the bike being recovered if it is stolen. We recommend that residents also register their bike on the national database www.bikeregister.com ✅We are also working with the university to increase bike security on campus. ✅As a result of these measures, reports of bike theft have fallen significantly. There has been 21 offences from January to April, compared to 47 from September to December last year.
SOUTH
🗣️You Said… Anti-social behaviour and vehicle related nuisance in Station Road, Welham Green through to Bluebridge Road in Brookmans Park We Did… ✅Operation Rossi has been put in place to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal activity committed using mopeds, pedal cycles, e-bikes and e-scooters. ✅An e-bike was seized on Thursday 5 March and the teenage rider was reported for four traffic offences.
🗣️You Said… Drug issues in Deerswood Avenue We Did… ✅Patrols were increased in the area to provide reassurance and gather intelligence. ✅Residents were encouraged to continue reporting concerns via 101 or online at https://www.herts.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us-beta/contact-us/. ✅A warrant that was conducted on Friday 9 January resulted in an 18 year old man being arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply (ketamine). Ketamine was seized from the address and the man was given a conditional caution.
